Q&A

  • How do I clean felted wool?

Wool has this amazing oil (lanolin) which repeals liquid and dirt.  You will find that spills stay on the surface of the felt so spot cleaning with dish cloth is all that is needed.  To fully wash your felt hand wash, lay flat to dry, iron on wool setting if needed.

  • How long does felted wool last?

Felt if taken care of correctly can last thousands of years.  The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia has felt art dating as far back as the fifth century BC.

  • Will moths eat my felted wool?

Not all moths eat wool but those that due love to lay their eggs in dark places.  So as long as your felt is being used you don’t need to worry about moths.  When your felt work is in storage store with cedar or lavender both of these are natural deterrents for moths.

  • What type of wool do you use in felting?

The wool I use comes from sheep.  I use wool from an array of sheep breeds that are farmed all over the world.  The softer wools, such as merino, come from Australia and New Zealand and are used for my detailed designs as well as my scarves.  I also use coarse wool, such as Cotswold or Clun Forest, that comes from Canada which is great for insulation and is used in my tea cozies as well as needle felting.

  • Will the felted wool artwork get dusty, how do I clean it?

Dust: Like all items in our house, felted art will get dusty.  A good feather duster works great to get the dust off of your felt.

Spills/Splashes/Dirty fingers: Wool has this amazing oil (lanolin) which repeals liquid and dirt.  You will find that spills stay on the surface of the felt so spot cleaning with dish cloth is all that is needed
